A Flagstaff Elopement Story

Kelsey + Mike were looking for the perfect mountain elopement location in Spring that would be complete with a cute cabin stay, mountain town vibes, and potentially wildflowers. After consideration, they landed on the incredible Arizona town of Flagstaff!

The energy going into the elopement day was very much “But, Daddy I Love Him” by Taylor Swift. We started with an off-road adventure with their rented Bronco to get ready out in nature. Mike, ready for the ceremony, stood among the ferns and waited to see Kelsey for the first time, down privately down the aisle. Starting the ceremony off with tears of joy and excitement as he soaked in the stunning gown.

Bill officiated the ceremony, stepping away for them to share their private, handwritten vows and co-recite the poem, The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. They ended their ceremony with a passionate dip kiss and instantly took their rings back off to see the surprise scribing on the inside of the bands from each other.

We explored the vista we were on, taking portraits on the ledges overlooking Sedona (where they would be having a mini-moon in a couple of days) and among the lupines that were blooming. Then it was back down the dusty, two wheel off road route to another incredible high desert location.

We came into view of Humphreys Peak, where we set a blanket out in the field for them to sit, have a beer in celebration, and cut their cake! As a surprise to these two, their friends had texted us videos of congrats and well wishes for them to watch while they enjoyed their cake and relaxed to just soak in the day!! Before the last light of the evening, we ran around in the field blissfully enjoying the views and having the mountains to ourselves on this special day.

To end their wedding day, we headed back to their stunning A-frame cabin tucked in the ponderosa pines for them to make pizza and share their first dance to “New Year’s Day” by Taylor Swift. The twinkle light dance party continued as their heart-shaped pizzas finished baking. It was a cozy, perfect evening to end a special day celebrating their years of building a friendship and partnership to live this big, beautiful life together.

Why Elope in Flagstaff, Arizona

Flagstaff is a perfect location for an elopement in the pines or with mountain views! Since this is not a place that has become Instagram famous, it is a location where you can find privacy for your day. Being a high desert environment, the area typically offers a lot of sunshine and great weather year-round, depending on what you are looking for.

While beautiful and offering a lot of adventures like off-roading, hiking, climbing, and biking, the town also offers lots of breweries and great restaurants. Some of our favorites in the area that we recommend trying while in town for your wedding are: Forét for brunch/breakfast, Shift for dinner and Sosoba for a low-key dinner + happy hour.

Not only is Flagstaff itself a beautiful location, but it is a great “home base” location for your adventure desert honeymoon! With only a short day trip drive, you can access the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Page!!

Planning your Flagstaff elopement

Best time to elope in Flagstaff

The best time to elope in Flagstaff, Arizona really depends on the type of weather you want and the type of adventure you are interested in. Personally, I think the best week is the first week of October and the last week of May.

Spring – Spring can be a great time to elope in Flagstaff, especially late Spring. A lot of the forest service roads do not open until May due to snowmelt. These roads give you a lot of access to beautiful locations in the area and offer camping.

Summer – Summer is filled with lovely temperatures and sometimes evening showers. Folks are out and about there is a lot to do in town!

Fall – The aspen leaves in the mountains change vibrant yellow late September to early/mid October. Each year’s exact dates depends on temperatures and rainfall.

Winter – If you have any interest in skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or building a snowman man this is the place with sunny days and a lot of snow!

How to get to Flagstaff

Flagstaff is located in Northern Arizona. There is a small airport located in Flagstaff, Arizona, but there are few flight options out of it. We would recommend flying into Phoenix, Arizona, and making the two-ish hour drive north to enjoy the desert plants and views along the way.

If you are eloping in Flagstaff, we highly recommend being sure to book a car rental.

Get driving directions from Sky Harbor Airport to Flagstaff here.

Where to Elope in Flagstaff

Flagstaff offers a great variety of elopement locations, depending on what you are looking for, view, and experience-wise. A lot of locations in Flagstaff are locally known or don’t really have names – which is amazing for privacy reasons. However, we will name a few of the top, most popular here for you:

Where to stay in Flagstaff

Being on the famous Route 66 and known as the gateway to the Grand Canyon, there are lots of places to stay! As for a hotel, our favorite place to recommend is High Country Motor Lodge. We love this place as it has a kitchen, a lovely bar with fantastic cocktails, a place to sit outside by the fire and is within walking distance to downtown.

If you want to consider an Airbnb, there are plenty of options within town and downtown. A lot of our couples tend to stay in Kachina Village, which has a lot of cute cabins and is just a few minutes outside of town, headed towards Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona.

Flagstaff Elopement Photographer

Looking for an elopement photographer in Flagstaff, Arizona?? This is a location that can helpful to work with a team that is already familiar with the area – someone that knows the best bars, the best dirt roads to incredible views and can help you plan the best desert road trip honeymoon to follow!

Hi – that is us!! We used to live locally to the area and still frequent the region each year. We have lived van life on these high desert roads, learned to climb on Flag’s limestone, have friends who own the local bars, and more. We would be more than happy to help you plan your own dream elopement location in this cute, quaint town!

I would recommend Adventure & Vow over and over again.

Adventure and Vow were the perfect photographers for our wedding day, we couldn’t be more happy with how the whole day and planning process went because of them!
Their communication was frequent but never overwhelming – we always knew exactly what they were looking for and felt very prepared going into the day. The script Bill wrote for our ceremony felt like he had known us our whole relationship. They really went above and beyond, like offering to pick up my husband’s boutonnière, and they sneakily took our phones at one point to record videos of us throughout the night without us knowing, they were such a fun surprise to see when we laid down in bed that night. Traci helped take me to the bathroom with a ball gown, fix my hair throughout the day and even surprised us with home videos from my best friends as the day settled down.

If you’re worried about the cost, they are probably charging lower than they should for all the roles they play (officiant, photo, video, planning, location guide/scouting, a friendly/calm presence to the day, etc.), I could go on and on! Truly a stress free experience.

Colchuck Lake Wedding: An Epic Elopement Adventure in the Washington Alps https://adventureandvow.com/colchuck-lake-wedding/ Fri, 04 Apr 2025 17:20:11 +0000 https://adventureandvow.com/?p=30432 A bride and groom together on a rock atop a turquoise colored lake where the groom is fly fishing.

If you’re dreaming of a Colchuck Lake wedding, you’re likely the kind of couple who values jaw-dropping views, meaningful moments, and unforgettable experiences over tradition.

Tucked away in the heart of the Enchantments near Leavenworth, Washington, Colchuck Lake offers one of the most striking backdrops for an adventurous wedding day.

In this couple’s Colchuck Lake wedding story, Adrienne and Andy knew they wanted something extraordinary for their elopement—a sunrise ceremony, a challenging hike, and time spent doing what they love most together. And that’s exactly what they got.

A Wedding That Almost Didn’t Happen: Is a Colchuck Lake Wedding possible?

When Adrienne and Andy first reached out to us about their Colchuck Lake elopement, they had already been told their vision was “not possible.”

Other vendors said:

  • The hike was too intense
  • The early start was too ambitious
  • The day wouldn’t be enjoyable

But at Adventure and Vow, we believe no adventure is too big, and we love a bit of challenge mixed into the day. This creates an environment for a more impactful and meaningful experience, so we are always about it.

Having tagged along with couples through early morning hikes and high-altitude ceremonies before, we knew exactly how possible their Colchuck Lake wedding would be and how great of an experience they’d have as well.

Hiking to Colchuck Lake Before Sunrise

On a crisp morning in late July, we met Adrienne and Andy under the stars in the parking lot to begin the 5+ mile hike with over 2,400 feet of elevation gain.

As we made our way up the trail:

  • The couple powered through switchbacks and forested paths
  • We made our way across waterways and rocky alpine terrain
  • After hours of darkness, the sky slowly transitioned to the soft glow of dawn

Once we reached the lake, Adrienne used a travel mirror to do her elopement makeup trailside. Then she slipped into her gown while Andy suited up nearby.

They met casually in the early morning light—everything around them looking like a watercolor painting.

Sunrise Vows overlooking a Crystal-Clear Colchuck Lake

The couple sat together on a blanket, sipping coffee and taking in the peaceful surroundings. With no one else around, they shared private vows overlooking the stunning blue waters of Colchuck Lake.

It was:

  • Quiet
  • Intimate
  • Deeply meaningful

A moment completely their own, surrounded by the towering peaks of Colchuck and Dragontail and their reflections still as glass upon the lake.

A bride and groom sit together at Colchuck Lake.

Fly Fishing at Colchuck Lake in Wedding Attire? Yes Please.

Fishing is an important part of Adrienne and Andy’s relationship, so of course it had to be part of their Colchuck Lake elopement.

With gorgeous backlight from the morning sun, they:

  • Set up their fly fishing gear
  • Cast lines into the still blue lake
  • Took time to truly enjoy the moment

Even though no fish were caught, the experience was perfect—slow, joyful, and grounded.

We stepped back, allowing the scene to unfold naturally, setting up a few posed shots but otherwise enjoying our time together while capturing candid images of them doing what they love.

Afternoon Break Before the Evening Celebration

After the ceremony and fishing, we hiked back down to the trailhead.

By then, the trail was bustling with hikers making their way up for the day. We parted ways for a few hours to rest and reset.

Later that evening, we reunited at a private riverside cabin in the Leavenworth area.

Intimate Dinner + Family Toasts at a Riverside Cabin

The couple rented a charming cabin with:

  • A spacious lawn
  • Private riverfront access
  • Cozy corners perfect for gathering

Here, Adrienne and Andy:

  • Shared a private chef-prepared dinner (shoutout to Miere Catering—it was unreal!)
  • Toasted with family
  • Signed their marriage license surrounded by their loved ones

The entire evening felt deeply intentional. Nothing was overdone, but every detail was thoughtful and true to the couple.

FAQs About a Colchuck Lake Wedding

How long is the hike to Colchuck Lake?

The trail is about 10 miles round-trip (It’s longer than All Trails says, we promise!) with 2,400 feet of elevation gain. Plan for 2–3 hours to reach the lake, depending on pace.

Is a Colchuck Lake wedding legal?

Yes! You can legally get married at Colchuck Lake. Because of the location of the lake in wilderness land, there is a limit on how many people are allowed in your group. Also keep in mind that this is a very challenging hike, so it would not be a good fit for anyone with mobility restrictions or low levels of fitness.

When is the best time of year to elope at Colchuck Lake?

Late July through early October is ideal. Trails are typically snow-free, and the scenery is unbeatable.

Is a Colchuck Lake Wedding better at Sunrise or Sunset?

We 100% stand by the fact that a Colchuck Lake Wedding is better at sunrise. This is because it’s a very popular trail during the popular season, which is also the only time period we’d recommend holding a wedding here. If you value privacy at all and would like it to be an experience rather than feel like a photo shoot, then definitely choose sunrise over sunset.

Can you fish at Colchuck Lake?

Absolutely. Colchuck Lake fishing is popular among alpine anglers. A valid Washington State fishing license is required.

Where is Colchuck Lake located?

It’s part of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Leavenworth, WA, and accessed via the Stuart Lake Trailhead. You will be able to use Google or Apple Maps to get yourself to the trailhead simply by looking up Eightmile Trailhead parking. From there, continue driving up Forest Service Rd. 7601 for about .75 miles until it ends at Stuart Lake Trailhead. If you like to be extra prepared, here are the coordinates for the trailhead parking:

47.52775, -120.82086

Is there a lot of parking for Colchuck Lake?

If you plan to start at sunrise, absolutely! However, this trail is one of the busiest hikes not only in Leavenworth, but also in Washington state as a whole. So do keep in mind that a later start can often mean you’ll be parking a mile down the road, adding two extra miles to the hike overall.

Liberty Bell Mountain Washington – A Climbing Trip Report & Unforgettable Summit Elopement https://adventureandvow.com/liberty-bell-climb/ Thu, 06 Mar 2025 06:13:18 +0000 https://adventureandvow.com/?p=30129 A motion blur photograph of a brides dress flowing in the wind during the end of susnet

Why Liberty Bell Mountain is One of Washington’s Best Climbs

Rising tall within Washington State’s North Cascades, Liberty Bell Mountain is an alpine climber’s dream. With solid granite walls, sweeping summit views, and an approach that is just the right distance from the parking lot, it’s no surprise that Liberty Bell attracts climbers in droves during the summer season.

One of the most popular climbs up Liberty Bell is the Beckey Route, a 4-pitch trad route that follows cracks, slabs, and an exposed boulder problem to the summit. For many, it’s the perfect intro to alpine trad climbing with a massively stunning view to reward climbers at the top. For Skye & Garrett, it became more than just another summit—it became the backdrop to their wedding.

Planning an Elopement on Liberty Bell Mountain

When Skye & Garrett connected with us about their rock climbing elopement, we were immediately excited. The Beckey Route is one they climbed together early on in their relationship and provided a fundamental bond for their relationship. Since we had a location, it was time for the planning:

The Challenge of a Same-Day Ascent & Wedding

The Original Plan:

  • Climb & descend in one evening
  • Hold the ceremony at the summit after the climb, midday

Why This Wouldn’t Work Well:

  • Climbing midday = harsh, unflattering light for photography
  • Crowded route = pressure to climb fast & no room for slower groups or anything to slow us down
  • Wouldn’t have time for the prime lighting conditions

The plan we moved forward with: An Overnight Climb & Cowboy Camping at the Summit

This was an important moment for our couple and not just another climb, so Instead of rushing, we made the decision to:

  • Climb later in the day to avoid crowds and bottlenecks
  • Stay overnight at the summit for both sunset & sunrise photography
  • Give Skye & Garrett more time to experience their elopement fully

This decision would completely change the experience for the better.

The Ascent – Climbing Liberty Bell’s Beckey Route

The Approach to Liberty Bell Mountain

Our team met Skye & Garrett in the parking lot on this early August morning. The plan was to gear up and wait for their two friends—one of whom would officiate their wedding at the summit the following morning.

The Gear We Carried:

  • Trad racks & ropes for climbing
  • Sleeping gear for cowboy camping
  • Camp meals and water for the overnight
  • Wedding attire & personal items for the couple
  • Camera equipment & a drone for capturing the experience

We set off along the Blue Lake Trail, heading toward the climber’s approach. The first part of the approach was easy-going, but as we left the main trail, things quickly got steep.

The Final Approach: A Loose & Steep Gully

  • This steep, rocky approach is the most dangerous part of the climb
  • Loose scree & rockfall risk made every step an important consideration

Once at the base of the route, we took our gear bags off and reassembled everything for the climb. All of the gear we were bringing up with us meant that each party of the six of us had to carry our own bags for certain items. Nearly all the sleeping gear was placed in a large haul bag that the couples friends took charge to pull up the route so that we could enjoy the night in comfort.

Pitch-by-Pitch Breakdown of the Beckey Route and our climb

Pitch 1 5.3: The Chimney Start

  • Moderate chimney climbing with solid gear placements
  • Rob and Jessica started, with Garrett and Skye following with Bill and Traci coming up in the last pair
  • Belay station at the top with enough space for the whole team

This pitch was very easy going and everyone made quick work up to the next belay station. The chimney was wide enough to ascend with gear bags on without a problem and most of this pitch resembles scrambling rather than 5th class climbing.

Pitch 2 5.5: An Awkward Start Into a Blocky Crack System

  • More technical than the first pitch, but it has great gear placement and follows a straightforward path up the obvious crack system
  • We continued in the same order as previously, however due to the awkward start, Bill and Traci tagged a line to Skye to avoid taking a fall on lead with the gear bags on their backs.

The second pitch is considered the most challenging for some, potentially due to the awkward off-width/chimney start required to gain the chock stone-filled crack and slab above. Once the first ledge is gained about ten feet up, the pitch is easy 5th class up to the next belay.

Due to the awkward start however, Bill and Traci opted to tag a line to Garrett’s party to ensure their safety while hauling their equipment up rather than taking the risk on lead.

Pitch 3 5.5: The Traverse Pitch

In our opinion, this is the most challenging pitch on the route. The traverse is committing and somewhat airy and coming up the slab and around the corner to the next belay station can certainly be intimidating for a new leader.

Pitch 4 5.6: The Boulder Problem & Summit Arrival

  • The final crux (for some) of the climb
  • Many consider this the most technical part, but for us, Pitch 3 had been the biggest challenge
  • We arrived at the summit just as the sun began to set over the North Cascades

The idea of a 10 foot, unprotected slab problem at the very top of an alpine climb sounds intimidating, but let me assure you that if you’re a competent climber this should pose no serious risk. The slab problem is very wide, and while falling while unprotected is always to be avoided, it is most likely that you’d slide down the slab and back on to the nearby ledge from where you started.

With that said however, you must be very mindful here as the far left and right side of the boulder problem are no fall zones.

The Summit Experience – Sunset, Wildlife & Wedding Prep

Golden Hour Photography & Drone Footage

We arrived, settled in, and enjoyed dinner, all in enough time to capture the perfect colorful sunset. Skye changed into her dress, and Garrett into his groom’s attire. They shared a first look overlooking all of the North Cascades. Then we gleefully explored the summit for sunset portraits, of course, some had to include a bouquet of cams 🙂

Sleeping Under the Stars

  • Some of us slept well, others were kept up by the woodrat’s antics
  • Smoke from wildfires rolled in overnight, creating a surreal morning atmosphere

While it was the plan already, we could see the smoke building and knew it might be worse in the morning. So it was crucially important to capture some of the experience while we had the sunset in the moment.

This was the first time anyone in our group had cowboy camped at the top of the route. Liberty Bell Mountain is immensely stunning at sunset and has plenty of room to accommodate setting up camp at the summit.

Throughout the night almost everyone was visited by, at the time an unknown, rodent sniffing shoes, our bags, and sleeping bags. Later we found out we were visited by a Bushy-Tailed Woodrat. Even with his curiosity, it was the perfect temperature for camping and a lovely night in the open air.

The Wedding Morning – Sunrise Ceremony & Descent

A Ceremony at 7,720 Feet

  • Skye & Garrett woke up to crisp alpine air and a dreamy even though smoky sunrise
  • Their friend Rob officiated their wedding, weaving in their love for climbing & the outdoors

Final Portraits & Breakfast at the Summit

  • The couple shared a quiet moment before heading down
  • More portraits & final moments before breaking camp

In the morning, as soon as headlamps were no longer required, we all rose from bed and broke down our camps. We moved into the couples ceremony where the two shared the summit with nobody but the 6 in our group, enjoying this private moment in such an iconic location. Rob read the ceremony from a home made Mountaineers booklet. Skye and Garrett also shared private vows during their ceremony touching on the adventures that brought them together and how full their life will be as they continue those adventures.

After Rob had pronounced the couple married, some additional portraits ensued, followed by socializing and celebrating over our Mountain House camp meals. After finishing eating and fully breaking down camp, we began our descent from the summit.

The Descent – Rappels, Rockfall & A Wild Drive Home

Smooth rappels… until the rope got stuck

  • All six members of our party safely + smoothly rapped down the 3 rappels
  • Rob lead climbed an unknown route to retrieve one of our ropes that got stuck
  • Meanwhile, Bill triggered a rockfall in the gulley, A stark reminder of alpine dangers

The Road Was Closed Due to Wildfires

  • Instead of a 2.5-hour drive to the Bellingham area, Traci & Bill had to take a 7-hour detour through Leavenworth.
  • Skye + Garret spent a few days relaxing and climbing in Mazama to kick off their honeymoon.

The rockfall danger is no joke! Even though Bill was mindful and careful with his steps, the chossy nature of the gulley has a concerning amount of opportunities for serious danger. Half of the group was already down the gulley when the rockfall was triggered, and thankfully, they had enough time to get against the wall on the sides of the canyon. Otherwise, it could have quickly become an emergency scenario.

The last piece of excitement was that the fire, which was rolling smoke in the night before, had created a situation where the road cutting through North Cascade National Park was now closed, causing those not staying in Mazama to drive all the way around the mountain to drive home. Thankfully it was a really pretty drive!

Why Climb Liberty Bell Mountain? Our Final Thoughts

  • A perfect climb for first-time trad multipitch climbers
  • An incredible summit view & climbing experience
  • An jaw-dropping location for an adventure elopement

Things to Watch For:

  • Steep, loose approach → Most dangerous part of the climb
  • Rockfall risk → Essential to stay aware
  • Crowds → Best climbed in the evening if you’re group moves quickly, otherwise, show up prepared for a queue.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars…

I was blown away by their professionalism and the way they helped us pose, figured out where to do our actual ceremony, and dealt with smoke rolling in the morning of. Not only were they amazing to work with, but they are so much fun to be around and really made us feel special on the most important days of our lives. Our elopement was not an easy one, it included a hike plus scramble approach, technical rock climbing with heavy packs, and a bivy on the summit, but they were excited about it all. They are honestly probably one of only a couple photographers who could pull it all off, and they were so much fun to spend the weekend with. If you are looking for photographers for a technical elopement, look no farther! I would hire them again and again.

3-Day Alaska Elopement https://adventureandvow.com/3-day-alaska-elopement/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 21:21:34 +0000 https://adventureandvow.com/?p=29519 A couple lays on a glacier together on a sunny fall day in their wedding attire.

Matt + Lauren’s Elopement in Seward + Palmer, Alaska

Day 1 – Adventures in Seward, Alaska

Lauren and Matt traveled from the mid-west with their families to the last frontier – Alaska. Together they all gathered at Salt Roots Cabins in Seward, Alaska for the wedding festivities. Day 1 was all about Lauren and Matt getting to adventure and explore the remote areas of this coastal mountain beauty. While they explored via helicopter + sailboat, their families took a boat tour to look for whales and other birds and critters.

After sharing a first look in dress one, Lauren and Matt headed out for their heli ride. A short 15 minute flight over mountains, waterfalls and glaciers, we landed on the shores of Bear Glacier. The sight was so surreal, and we had it all to ourselves. Lauren and Matt enjoyed kayaking around the massive towering glaciers, watching and listening to them move in the water. It was the perfect way to kick off the start of the wedding events. A bucket list destination, a familiar activity they have shared in various other countries together, but this time – for their wedding.

The helicopter came back to pick us up, showing off some impressive flight skills before landing. We loaded back up into the heli for a short flight across the sound to a private beach, flying over the sailboat we would soon all be on. We waved goodbye to the helicopter one last time. Taking in the view around us we got to see eagles watching us enjoy the shore. The dingy came to pick us up and take us to the sailboat. It was like a movie, Lauren and Matt snacking on the dingy, grinning ear to ear, loading onto the beautiful white boat in the middle of a cove surrounded by glacier carved mountains with waterfalls rushing down into the ocean. We joined them and we started our relaxing, beautiful journey back to Seward.

When we first started planning Lauren and Matt said they wanted their day to feel awe-struck. Day 1 definitely felt like complete awe, setting the tone for the entire event.

Day 2- Wedding Day at Salted Roots Cabin

Wedding day has arrived!! Lauren got ready with all of her gals in her and Matt’s cabin while Matt got ready and spent time with is family in various cabins. Since it was raining on the wedding day we decided to move the ceremony location from the private beach to the lush forest. The A-framed arch decorated with flowers popped among the forest creating such an enchanting vibe.

Lauren and Matt each gifted their parents handkerchiefs with a photo of them when they were little with beautiful words about being their parents on it prior to the ceremony. Lauren’s mom helped her get dressed, as they shared some emotional moments together. Once everyone was ready, Lauren shared a private first look with her dad before he walked her down the aisle, through the forest to Matt. During the ceremony the rings were passed around to their dearest loved ones to bless the rings with well wishes before returned to the couple to place on each others fingers. The ceremony ended in a passionate dip kiss and celebratory smiles and giggles.

After the ceremony we all gathered in one of the cabins that had been transformed into a beautiful romantic setting for a private chef prepared brunch. Everyone dined smiling, laughing and sharing stories over delicious food. Lauren and Matt shared their first dance that they had been practicing and choreographing for the past few months. Then Lauren shared a first dance with her dad and Matt with his mom to complete the wedding day celebration.

Everyone went back to their cabins to rest and relax while Matt and Lauren took a walk on the shore line and ended their day at the sauna. It was a perfect way to end a high emotional, big event day getting to just relax and slow down time together.

Day 3 – Heli Tour in Palmer, Alaska

After a one day gap to check out of the cabins, travel to Palmer and check into a new stay we were all ready for another big adventure day exploring Alaska via helicopter! This day was planned around being the “bonus day” and to feel like celebration of coming together, ticking off a bucket list item of getting to fly in a helicopter together and experience an Alaska glacier in all of it’s glory.

They got ready together sharing a slow morning. Before setting out they took some time to read through the journal they have shared together throughout their relationship – revisiting memories, times during long distance dating, trips and more. It was a morning that just felt like thankfulness – to be here together and for everything they have shared up to this moment.

We arrived at the helipad to set out to the Knik glacier. Immediately flying over the valley we knew it was going to be a good day – partly cloudy, incredibly fall colors on the mountains (reminding them of CO) and the stunning blue glacier.

We first landed at a private spot with various blue pools and found the perfect spot for them to share their private vows with each other. They shared their vows with laughter and tears, just them and the ice. Once the emotions settled and they came back to present with each other the sheer joy was undeniable.

We hoped back into the heli for our second landing – another blue glacier pool. Lauren was most excited for seeing the blue glacier waters when it came to exploring the Knik. At this stop they chose to share an intimate, meaningful, moment washing each other’s feet to honor their faith. In true outdoor fashion they took turns sitting in the camp chairs, removing crampons and boots to wash each other’s feet with the cold, fresh glacier water.

Then we set off for location number three! We landed up on the hillside of the glacier to stop and see a private waterfall coming from glacier run off up above us. It was incredible hearing the roaring power of the water and getting a different perspective of the mountains and glacier.

Our last stop of the day was on the top of the mountain ridge where we landed in bright read heather overlooking the entire Knik glacier and surrounding peaks. It was magical. We started out by exploring the expansive view of the entire glacier coming down the valley and seeing the tiny spot we had previously landed. Lauren and Matt decided to share their choreographed danced together one last time in this incredible place. We stopped to snack on the fresh Alaskan wild berries, which went perfect with their champagne. This was the perfect time to just soak it all in and memorize the view and feeling to the best of our abilities.

During the flight back the pilot took us to see various other pockets of the glacier and mountains, just in time for a beautiful sunset. Since Lauren and Matt have a lot of flight experience of their own and a lot of interested in helicopters the pilot showed off just a little, making it a memorable ride!

We returned to the cabin where Matt ordered a pizza for dinner and they dived into their cake, decorated in a mountain scene. Once the pizza arrived they hoped into the hot tub to enjoy the last of the evening together relaxing.

Lauren + Matt’s Elopement Day Video

We not only captured Lauren and Matt’s day for photo, but also video. It was important to them to capture not only the visual of the experience, but also the auditorial experience of the elopement. It is truly special to get to be transported back to Alaska to re-hear the vows, but also the sounds from the adventures!

Rich + Paige’s Fall Adventure Elopement

From Colorado to Utah

Colorado | Wedding Day

Rich + Paige’s day started out at their stay in Telluride where they exchanged gifts and got ready for most of the morning together. Paige gifted Rich socks with their kids faces on it since they could not be with them for the elopement. Rich gifted Paige a beautiful leather book filled with their adventures and travels together.

Once it was time to put the dress on, Rich set out for the Gondola to the first look location. Once Paige was in her dress, hair and make up complete, her and I set out up the mountain as the full moon was starting to fade away, dawn starting to bring light to the day.

Rich + Paige shared their first look overlooking the stunning mountain range where we would soon be heading into in total privacy, sharing a moment between themselves to soak it in – the day is here.

From there the day was in full swing! We headed down the gondola to our next location. After a little bit of off roading through the colorful aspens we arrived at a beautiful lake surrounded by massive mountains. This location was one that Paige was most excited about for their Colorado portion of the elopement! Rich and Paige laid out a blanket, poured themselves some hot chocolate and started writing their vows. This is always a favorite as an elopement photographer. Starting with writing vows or simply re-reading your vows before starting your wedding day can feel so grounding, bringing the intention of the day front of mind.

Up next we ventured off to one of the prettiest, most private waterfalls I have ever seen! We were so excited to show this location to Rich + Paige! Rich had another surprise for Paige – he gifted her a book by their kids of which they had colored and drawn in it all about their lives together and Rich + Paige on their wedding day. It was the perfect place for such a special gift! From the bottom of the falls, to the top! It was the perfect lunch spot and make up touch up before heading out for the ceremony.

From Telluride, to Ouray we went!! We set out for an off road adventure, this time much deeper into the mountains. We stopped along our way to the lake where they’d share their ceremony at various view points, forests and lakes. Eventually, making our way to the main event and ceremony location. The ceremony was lakeside and we had the entire mountain range to ourselves it seemed. They started their ceremony off with a wine ceremony, shared prayers, exchanged rings and becoming officially Mr + Mrs. It was a beautiful ceremony from the view, the feeling and the words.

After the ceremony we headed up to the top of the pass to look down on the lake they had gotten married at. Another beautiful view point and perfect place for a little celebratory joy + of course a champagne spray!!

Before the night ended, we headed back out towards the main road, stopping along the way to enjoy cake + sign the marriage license in the beautiful blue hour light a little lower in elevation for slightly warmer temps! We also got to enjoy the stars on our way under the dark mountain skies – a perfect ending to day one!

Day 2 Adventure + Celebration | Moab, Utah

We took a one day break for everyone to drive from Telluride to Moab, which is about 3.5 hour drive. This way everyone could be rested for the full day of adventure ahead. We kicked off day two under the stars again, but this time for a sunrise hike to one of the most magnificent natural arches in the Southwest. We arrived as blue hour started to bring color to the beautiful sandstone. They started their day intentionally by joining each other in prayer. This was followed by the first of their two first dances as husband and wife. They each picked a first dance song, surprising each other with the song they had picked during the dance!

As we made our way back to Moab, we stopped for breakfast to go and headed to a beach side location along the Colorado River. As they ate their bagels + drank coffee they read letters of congrats and advice from their community within their church. As the desert sun started to warm us they decided to get into the river for some fun and rock skipping before heading out.

For the second half of the day we went for even more off roading! We had several stops planned – sand dunes for some quick fun, a riverside look out for a pizza picnic, overlooks and of course the back country Canyonlands National Park sign. We eventually reached our main overlook where the day was going to slow down and we were gonna spend the rest of the evening. After exploring the massive ledges we found the perfect spot for Paige + Rich to share their personal vows with each other as the sun slowly start to set behind them. Another magical moment together, this time just them and the massive red rock canyon walls as they shared their love with each other privately.

Just because the sun went down, did not mean the fun was over! First, they shared their second, first dance together in front of the 4Runner’s headlights. Then we built a fire where they sat and shared left over cake together from the night before. Then we waited, watching the night sky growing darker and darker. Eventually seeing the Milky Way in all of its glory until the beautiful, bright full moon rose over the La Sal mountain range in the distance (you have to see the last photo of the blog!). It was the most relaxing, peaceful way to end the wedding celebration – slowly soaking it in, no rush, no where to go – just enjoying the moment.

Truly, none of us wanted it to end.

Rich + Paige’s elopement is a beautiful example of going on a new adventure together, but also building a lot of intention into the various locations and activities. From special surprises, to memorable words and incredibly moving views. We are so happy for these two and thankful to have been a long for the epic journey from the Mountains to the Desert.

Antonya + Dusty’s Elopement in Alabama Hills https://adventureandvow.com/antonya-dustys-elopement/ Fri, 28 Jun 2024 22:17:11 +0000 https://adventureandvow.com/?p=28281 A groom jumps off of a rock while the bride celebrates.

Planning the elopement day!

When it came to getting married Dusty + Antonya knew they wanted to elope because, “We wanted an intimate, rich, personal experience to celebrate our love with the people closest to us.”

When it came to picking the right location, Bishop, felt like the right place. Dusty + Antonia had visited there a few times with each other and both times had such an incredible time. They love the local ice cream shop and even shared their first time saying I love you to each other in Bishop. They were excited to share a place they love dearly with their loved ones and celebrate their marriage there.

They chose late May for their elopement day in Bishop which can be perfect temperatures and the wildflowers just start blooming. However, in the mountains, this is the time the snow is melting. We made Plan A in the mountains, a hike to a beautiful lake. Then we made Plan B, in Alabama Hills, among the big boulders in the desert with Mt Whitney as the backdrop. Then we waiting for the day to get closer to decide which would the best option based on conditions.

Getting Ready for the elopement

Antonya + Dusty stayed and got ready at Eastside Bivy Guesthouse. It was the perfect cozy and beautiful stay and space for getting ready. They got ready separately while spending time with their family + closest friends. It was a time of relaxation before setting out for the adventure. They took the time to write their vows in their vow books, keeping the words fresh before reading them soon to each other. Once ready they loaded up in separate cars with their guests so they could share a special first look down the aisle, aka, trail.

Elopement at Alabama Hills

Some of the moments and photos that Antonya + Dusty were most excited where the first look and walking down the aisle to start the ceremony. We were able to scout the day before picking the most perfect location for their ceremony that offered privacy, easy access for the guests from parking and stunning imagery for this special moment for the two of them. The guests gathered at the location and Antonya’s father walked her down the trail to her future husband.

Bill officiated the ceremony paying homage to the beauty around, touching on their story together before they shared their touching private vows. Excitedly, they shared their fist kiss as husband and wife before sharing congratulation hugs from their guests. It was a beautiful, dreamy ceremony.

Following the ceremony they set up a picnic with their loved ones. They brought with them sandwiches from a local shop in Bishop, and set up a blanket and camping chairs to comfortably eat. To end their lunch they cheered their pickles! They wanted to share a toast with all their loved ones, the important people in their lives they had asked to be here for this intimate, intentional celebration. They shared their thanks and admiration to each person. In turn, each person went around the circle sharing their own toasts with the couple including admiration, stories and of course words of good luck in their marraige. There were happy tears and of course some laughter!

In life, we often go through the days busy. Moments like these feel monumental and so special. The moments you share with the people you love why you love them, how they shaped you and simply being present together to enjoy somewhere so incredibly beautiful.

With full tummies, it was time for a little adventure!! Antonya and Dusty hiked out to Mobius Arch to see the sunset and take some couple’s portraits together. The family decided to hike along behind them to also check out the view and watch along for fun. As we started our hike the sun popped below the clouds shining on the boulders and warming our skin. Antonya and Dusty ventured off exploring the different boulders, having fun holding each other and jumping off the rock. After the sun set their guests ventured back to the picnic area and they cuddled up under the arch holding each other and reflecting on this incredible day together. As we hiked back, we stopped along the way to enjoy the tones the desert faded to during blue hour, the depth of the mountains and pops of color from the wild flowers. Alabama Hills really showed off it’s beauty for them.

They walked hand in hand back to where their loved ones were sitting and enjoying wine. They sat with them to chat and hang out while there was still some light to the day. Antonya and Dusty had also brought with them cake and dessert to end the evening. They cut their cake and shared a bite before passing around the cookies for everyone to enjoy as dusk set in.

Before leaving to head back to Bishop together, it felt like time stood still for just a second as everyone let the day settle and took in the last views of the incredible mountains and desert. It was a beautiful, stress-free, fun way to celebrate the start of their marriage! It was perfect balance of nature, family, wedding and adventure.

We wish a huge congrats to Antonya + Dusty! We hope you get to continue to come back to this area to reflect on this beautiful day shared and make new memories throughout your marriage!

Chris + Rachael’s Moab Elopement Day Story

Rachael and Chris fell in love with the idea of an elopement when they were considering getting married, but looking for a way that felt right and natural to them. To them, the purpose of a marriage is to signify your love, admiration, and promise of growth to one another. An elopement wedding fit as a way to honor the purpose of their commitment. They decided they would tie the knot on an epic Van life road trip from Vegas, to Moab, to Colorado, to the Tetons and back! While this trip was huge already, as they would be ticking off a bucket list item, it really felt huge to celebrate their relationship of almost 10 years, all they had built together from when they first met, all the changes, highs, lows, love and hard work.

On the elopement day we met at their hotel to head out to drive into the depth of the canyons together. They adventured together in a UTV way down a twisting dirt road that lead all the way back up and out to a stunning vista view. After a few playful moments in their UTV, we hiked a little social trail off of the road for them to change into their wedding attire and share a first look together. Just them + the canyons to take in the day had arrived and they would be getting married!!

We ventured up, over and just down the pass to see the completely unique view with totally different colors + textures. They set up their picnic to enjoy lunch as they sat side by side writing their wedding vows together.

Before adventuring our way back out of the canyons we hiked around exploring the toad stools, vista views and playing in the UTV. Rachael + Chris orginally wanted to off road on dirt bikes to start their elopement day as a way to honor their first date/day they met each other. Their first meeting ended in them riding Chris’ dirt bike down the night roads. So when we saw some fellow off roaders on dirt bikes, I had to ask them if they would be up for a photo for these two on their wedding day + they were! Adventuring mixed in with a few sentimental moments was the perfect way to set the tone of their day!

The second half of their day was headed up to even higher views! We traveled back to town to change out the UTV for the camper van they had rented for their extended road trip. We made it to Dead Horse Point State Park where they fell in love with the views and knew it was the right place to say I Do.

Both Chris + Rachael had lost their fathers during their time dating and they both meant a lot to them. To include their dads in their ceremony Rachael had her veil embioreded with her father’s name and a sweet note for down the aisle. During their ceremony they shared a hand fasting ceremony using rope that Chris’ dad kept in his truck his entire life. Their ceremony was private and felt as if time stood still for a moment surrounded by the evening beauty of the desert vista. They shared their personal vows and a passionate kiss to seal the deal.

Following the ceremony they enjoyed the rest of the evening exploring the edges of the vista overlooking the Colorado river, Canyonlands National Park and watching the sky turn dark blue and the almost full moon rise above them.

Before the night came to an end, we headed into Arches National Park to look at the stars under the iconic natural sand stone arches. The almost full moon shined bright, it was like seeing the stars under a mini sun. It was a beautiful way to end the evening.

During the elopement day Rachel reminded me that when they reached out to plan their elopement they were intially considering Zion National park, but we advised them to consider Moab instead. To my relief, Rachael thanked me for the suggestion and said she was so thankful we recommended Moab and they chose it. They stopped in Zion on their way from Vegas. They camped and hiked Angel’s Landing! They had a wonderful time, but, felt Moab was certainly the better fit for their day. It is so special watching a couple fall in love with a place like Moab and know that it will forever be a place they hold in their hearts dearly.

Rachael and Chris decided to go for a Full Send to celebrate getting married and their time together. From experiencing van life for the first time, conquering big hikes, having an epic adventure on their wedding day and then traveling into the mountains. It was fun, free and a day of happiness. It was a day that truly is all about what the day is about. It was them.

Massive congratulations to these two! Thank you so much for trusting us and inviting us along for such a d*mn good time.

Reanna + Roxy’s Two Day Elopement Wedding in Moab, Utah https://adventureandvow.com/reanna-roxys-wedding/ Tue, 11 Jun 2024 14:50:57 +0000 https://adventureandvow.com/?p=28017 A couple walks under an arch in Arches National Park.

Reanna and Roxy reached out to us from Instagram about a year before their elopement day. They wanted to elope just them two in Sedona, Arizona – somewhere with adventure, red rocks, and night skies! Eventually, they chose Moab, Utah as their destination based on the variety of formations, things to do, and quaint adventure town. As we planned, ideas shifted and they knew they had to bring their loved ones out for this once in a lifetime epic adventure.

Reanna and Roxy’s story began as friends when they met through family. As their relationship grew they went on adventures together around Florida, in Oregon, to Italy, moved in together, then moved towns, become dog moms and doctors! Spending time with these two you can instantly feel their connection, see they care for, respect and love each other.

Upon arriving in Moab, it was full send! They kicked off their week in Utah off roading, hiking and even zip lining. They explored together just them two and brought their friends and family along for some of the adventures!

Day 1 – Adventuring around Moab

Having never been to Moab, Utah before Reanna and Roxy wanted to get the most out or their time spent in the area. Day one was their adventure day, true adventure elopement style in the red rocks. We started the morning off in Arches National Park before sunrise to see the stars, watch the sky turn from dark to blue, to eventually the sun warming the desert sandstone.

It was a beautiful morning seeing all of the different towering arches, taking our time to enjoy the views and soak it all it. We stopped at all of the major arches scrambling and playing in the pink, orange sand in between sand stone walls.

After a short break in the day, we re-met in town to start our second half of the days adventure. Reanna and Roxy rented an epic off-road ready Bronco so they could access off-the-beaten-path nooks within Moab. They were stoked to get it out and play on the off-roads within the canyons. We drove out down Potash road along the Colorado River passing climbers, petroglyphs and the occasional other off road driver until finally reaching the start of some of the best views in the area! After a while of driving, we stopped at an overview of the Colorado so they could write their vows.

I love having two days with a couple, as it provides time to create space for moments. Time to really take your time, enjoy, soak it in and be present for the epic day you’ve spend months or a year planning. They sat together, back to back in the sun as they wrote their vows and chatted together. We continued our off road drive through the canyons, across streams and up switch backs. We stopped along the way to enjoy the views and to switch drivers to they could each experience the road.

We reached our highly anticipated destination, Dead Horse Point State Park. Reanna and Roxy decided to share their vows with each other here, privately. It was a moment of peace all around and joy as they shared their love with each other – their coming to this point, promises for the future and happiness for where they were now. Following their vows we ventured around the massive edges of the canyon cliffs that tower over the road they had driven to get here. They shared champagne out of cups with their Bernadoodle’s faces on them and confetti cake. They read a letter from a dear friend of their’s that was not able to attend the wedding that was originally going to officiate their ceremony. They took some time, as the sun set behind the canyons, to cuddle up and Reanna read the letter allowed to Roxy. You could tell the letter was filled with so much love, wisdom and care, it was truly a perfect way to end day one of their elopement wedding.

Day 2 – The Wedding

Reanna and Roxy held their wedding at Red Earth Venue in Moab, Utah with around 80 of their closest family and friends whom traveled from all over to join them in celebration in the desert!! We started the day with getting ready with their mother’s and bridal party. It was relaxing to spend the morning and early part of the afternoon all together eating, drinking and getting hair and make up done. Their mom’s helped them get into their dresses and add the final touches to their looks. Before being ready to go, Reanna had us secretly give Roxy a card and present, a beautiful snake coiled ring which she wore the rest of the evening.

Once ready, they shared a first look together before heading over to the venue. On day 1, they wore different dresses, so they could still share this special moment together and not have to worry about keeping their dresses clean while adventuring. Their first look felt like time stood still for a minute. Their bridal party looked on from a distance as they loaded the school bus for transportation. The two brides took their time admiring each other’s dresses.

Everyone arrived on location at the venue via the big yellow bus and it was time for the celebration to begin. We first checked out all of the beautiful decor and floral work before heading out deeper on the property for photos with the bridal party. In true desert fashion, the wind was 30-40 mph on this day, but we embraced it and had a great time!! The wind died down enough to hold the ceremony outside, as planned, the venue said it was the windiest wedding they had had so far for the year! Each of the bride’s dads walked them down the aisle to start of the ceremony. Reanna and Roxy shared part of their personal vows for their guests to hear and held a sand mixing ceremony. They shared their first kiss as wife and wife, allowing for the party to begin!!

Cocktail hour consisted of specialty cocktails designed by each bride, their guests taking in the incredible views and hugs for the brides. The brides entered their reception in the beautiful glass building where all their guests awaited in their reception dresses. Each bride danced with their father’s as their mother’s looked on emotionally. Soon after Reanna and Roxy shared their own first dance, of which they had been going to dance lessons for as a fun activity to do together pre-wedding. Following their first dance, they shared with guests a couple of traditional dances, the Hora Dance and the Italian Tarantella.

Reanna and Roxy’s group really knew how to have a good time and danced the night away! Reanna and Roxy created their own playlist for the evening and it was one of the best dancing playlists I have ever heard. Everyone had such a wonderful time on the dance floor, taking breaks to grab cake, fries from the late-night snack bar, and drinks!

As the night settled they shared one last dance together, privately, just them two and their empty venue. They held each other close as if holding onto remembering this night, this moment forever. Then it was off to the bus to join everyone in returning to Moab. Their guests made an aisle for them with sparklers and cheered them as one last hoo-rah! They did it, they tied the knot in the most beautiful celebration you could imagine.

Reanna + Roxy invited us out on a hike with their guests the day after the wedding and we of course joined!! We enjoyed getting to know their guests more and getting to just hang out with them again before they headed back to the East coast. I often look back through the questionnaires I send out couples before the elopement day and while editing the gallery. One of the questions I ask is, how do you want your elopement day/gallery to feel? Their answer was: for it to feel effortless, carefree, and fun. When I think back to the two days we shared with them it felt just that. Everything was so much fun from adventures to celebrations! It was a week to never forget and to always look back on filled with joy. The two days we shared with them felt a like a true documentation of their love and story becoming wife + wife!

Two Day Southwest Elopement https://adventureandvow.com/two-day-desert-elopement/ Wed, 06 Dec 2023 18:02:01 +0000 https://adventureandvow.com/?p=24557 A couple stands for a portrait in Arches National Park.

Dani + Troy’s Elopement Story from Arizona to Utah

A couple kayaks at dawn in Northern Arizona.
A couple paddles on Lake Powell.

After getting engaged Danielle and Troy started planning and brainstorming about their wedding day. At first thinking to do a traditional wedding in Canada, where they call home. After putting some ideas together they decided to elope instead. Cost wise their dollar would go further. They were excited to do something new together, like how they would do big new first together when they first started dating. They decided to rent an RV and go on a road trip from Canada to the Southwest US. Having never been here they were very excited to see all the different colors, textures and to experience as much as they could.

Day 1 | Page, AZ

Danielle and Troy started their elopement celebration off on the water. We met at Lake Powell before dusk, getting to watch the sky change from dark to a deep blue than a light purple. The colors were so soothing along the rocks, listening to the water. We loaded up in our kayaks by the shoreline to set out for an adventure! A bucket list item when visiting the desert is often the slot canyons, and that was exactly where we were headed.

We paddled our way in the lake as they admired the wall colors and textures changing as we started to get into more narrow channels. Eventually, we hit another sandy shore deep into a wide canyon. From here we had to hike! Arriving so early in the morning, we were able to have the slot canyon completely to ourselves, which is the best way to experience a canyon – no rush, no sound – just a random skeleton perched up on a rock looking down on us as we entered.

Danielle stopped to feel the sand and the rock walls. It was so fun getting to play and just soak in the experience. We made our way back through the canyon to where we had pulled our kayaks to land. As we headed back, we ventured through much rougher water as the lake had started getting lots of boat traffic making for a whole new adventure!

Lunch by the Lake + Offroading

Now that we were back on dry land and had worked up an appetite it was time for lunch! Dani had planned a beautiful picnic for them to enjoy. We drove to a sandy beach area overlooking part of Lake Powell. It was nice to see it from the water and from a beautiful view point.

Dani laid out her lovely set up complete with delicious foods from back home in Canada. They brought some their favorite items to enjoy during lunch, some of which Troy’s mother had even cooked. They also brought some new treats like desert decorated cupcakes to have! It was a perfect little pit stop for the day to full up for the next adventure ahead!

The Wedding Day | Moab, UT

We took a day for everyone to travel from Page, Arizona to Moab, Utah about a 5 hour drive stretching across the North to North East side of Arizona entering Utah at the most South East corner. After a day of travel, sight seeing and rest the wedding day had arrived!!!

We started early in the middle of the night so we could catch another sunrise. Dani went into town to get her hair and make up done with Troy got ready back at base camp, Under Canvas. Once ready Tory made his way into Arches National Park to wait until the first look. Dani came back to camp to get into her dress and then was off to meet Troy!

They shared first look in front of the tallest arch in the Windows section of Arches National Park. Dani walked to Troy and when he turned around you could see the instant admiration in his eyes. They checked out each other’s outfits and embraced in a hug. Today was the big day and you could feel it. Dani told Troy she had been waiting for this moment, for him to see her in a wedding dress, for years.

It was perfect, just them two on a lovely fall morning in the desert surrounded by massive beautiful rock walls. After the first look we took some time exploring the different arches in the park, stopping to see Turret Arch, North Window, Sand Dune Arch and Park Avenue. It was a fun way to kick off the start of the wedding day!

After exploring the National Park, we all headed back to Under Canvas where the couple had breakfast waiting. Danielle and Troy love good food and they really wanted that to be a part of their day and share a new experience together by having a personal chef do the meals for them. They sat at a table for two overlooking the glamping tents and a canyon wall as breakfast was served. Instantly, you could tell the food was AMAZING. They sat together, taking their time to enjoy the meal and morning together.

Once breakfast was done we walked back to their tent so they could write their vows, read letters from loved ones of notes of love and congratulations. Before leaving the tent for their ceremony they Facetimed their parents back home in Canada so they could seem dressed up in their wedding attire and wish them a final good luck! It was so wonderful taking the middle part of the day to just hangout together and slow down their adventures and travel to let the day slip away too quickly.

The Ceremony

We arrived at the ceremony location – Dead Horse Point State Park!! One of the coolest thing about all the locations Danielle and Troy explored during their elopement celebration is that they were all so different for each other. We were stoked for these two to see the massive overlooking canyon. We walked over to their permitted elopement ceremony location.

Upon arrival Danielle and Troy took some time to enjoy the view before setting everything up. The brought a table and cacti that they named ‘Utah’ for their unity ceremony. The also brought a “we eloped” sign and played some romantic music to during their ceremony. They started off by walking hand in hand together to Bill who officiated. The ceremony began with them planting their Cactus together into its new home with two different soils that Danielle and Troy had brought from back home and traveled with. Then they shared personal vows which brought happy tears and even a few rain droplets fell from the sunny sky.

It was a quiet, emotional and beautiful ceremony. Once announced married they shared a kiss, a long embrace and turned towards the canyon over look to hold each other letting this moment soak in.

After the ceremony, we ventured around the edge of the vista checking out the different views it offered and capturing portraits. Dani had showed me on her phone a photo she had taken and loved of monument valley so we recreated that with them and the rock features at the state park. We took some silly photos too as we admired all the holes Dani’s veil had earned from exploring the desert. Then they loaded up back into their RV and we headed back to Under Canvas. Chef Emily had prepared a lovely dinner at the private fire pit area they had reserved. They sat at the romantic set up and started off with a toast and glass of “I do” champagne. Chef served a lovely appetizer and delicious dinner as they sat together chatting and enjoying together.

Once dinner was finished they stoked the fire and headed over to the main stage to have their first dance together surrounded by twinkle lights under a colorful sunset sky. They showed off their moves in a beautiful dance in complete privacy. It was a romantic way to soak in the last moments of daylight on their wedding day. The night was still young though. We gathered around the fire making smore’s checking out the starry sky and just chatting about the day, the trip and what was ahead as they would continue their desert road trip for their honeymoon.

The entire experience was so incredible. From off roading, kayaking, hiking, scrambling and eating amazing food. It was two days filled with what seemed like a desert fairytale. So many beautiful memories made to kick off their marriage. A huge congrats to Dani + Troy!!!! We hope you can come back to the desert sometime for more new adventures and memories. A huge thank you for having us along to share in this with you!

This day has been 11 years in the making as Jenifer + Taylor have been growing their relationship working towards marriage and becoming one family. From meeting in California to moving to Tennessee together, they have worked towards their individual and shared goals as partners in life.

Taylor proposed to Jenifer on an epic adventures while they were visiting The Smokey Mountains. On the day of their engagement, they enjoyed a helicopter and horse back ride exploring the mountains. When it came time to plan their wedding day they knew they wanted to explore the mountains of Washington, but were also intrigued with including new adventures, but also adventures that would take them back to that awesome day together.

Jenifer + Taylor were a couple whom have been chatting about their elopement day together for some time. When I asked them why they wanted to elope, I loved this part of their answer “This is our day we give each other our full selves and we do not think there is a better way than being outside like we love to be and in the beautiful scenery of this gorgeous world.” as it directly relates with why we believe so much in eloping!

Day 1 – Mt Baker // North Cascades

Arriving at Jenifer + Taylor’s beautiful cabin they rented we saw a pizza hut box, remnants of a fitting dinner the night before their elopement. They met many years ago in Southern California at a Pizza Hut! They each got ready separately – re-reading their vows they had written and then getting dressed for the day. Jenifer blindfolded Taylor so they could ride together to the first location and share a first look there.

Taylor hiked in first, making his way through the forest, down the hill to a rock bed at the base of a stunning waterfall. Jenifer and I followed, stopping to admire ferns and moss along the way. Jenifer walked up to Taylor and they shared a first look in the complete privacy within the mountain. They took the time to check out each others outfits, hold each other close and admire the beautiful nature surrounding them. They shared their first dance together to the song My Love by Ryann Darling. Before we left the area we took some time to get closer to the falls playing on the rocks. Then we all hiked together back through the forest to venture off to our next adventure.

Jenifer + Taylor were stoked to ride horses again in a new place together. We found stables near all of the other locations making it possible to include a ride on their wedding day. This ride was unique because it was private and gave us the flexibility to ride where wanted and freely. We rode briefly through the forest, by a pond, through a couple of massive open fields and through the Nooksack river. We got off by the river to hang out in the shade and get in the water, a nice cool down from the warm summer day. This part of the two days was one of Taylor’s very favorites – the freedom of running around on the horses and just their joy laughing together enjoying the experience.

After the horseback ride we drove our up higher within the Mt Baker National Forest. Before starting our hike to the ceremony location, we stopped to check out a quick spot that Jenifer had been eyeing on social media and was excited to finally see in person. They sat for a few minutes overlooking the lake and mountains, a break from driving and some time to relax before the big hike, up!

We started our hike in another beautiful mountain and lake view they had been admiring for some time, but now they were here in person! There were still plenty of wildflowers blooming along the way as we hiked, even orchids!

Once we arrived to the ridge we took a breather and reset to go into the ceremony space. It was the perfect spot that showcased the beauty of both Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker. They shared vows together privately on the trail as the sun shined on them and the evergreens and the mountains surrounded them. It was a beautiful moment where time felt like it stood still. A moment that was completely theirs as they became one together, forever. After some time letting it all soak in and enjoying this space together, we explored more of the trail as the sunset starting turning the sky a cotton candy pink. Before hiking down, Taylor laid in what snow was left on the shaded mountain side to cool off. Besides, why not soak up the last bit of Winter left in the heat of the summer???

We hiked out from the mountain under the stars, getting to see the milky way for the first time on their trip! We headed back to their adorable cabin to end the night by the fire eating left over pizza and diving into their delicious cake that they had flown all the way from Atlanta with!!

Day 2 – Exploring Olympic National Park

When it came to picking a wedding location – Jenifer + Taylor knew their hearts were set on the Mount Baker area. However, when discussing locations and exploring Washington as a whole during planning they were also captivated by the forest, coast line and magic of Olympic. They decided to spend day 2 together exploring this region of WA.

After a day break to drive down the peninsula, we started day 2 at sunrise on the beach visiting the Tree of Life. We got the most beautiful foggy, colorful Pacific Northwest Morning with the beach mostly to ourselves. It was fun watching them make hearts in the sand simply enjoying their time and being present together. After soaking in the view of the coast line and the tree of life, they found a spot to sit together, read a little bit of scripture and pray together. This was particularly special to include in their elopement experience because this is how they start everyday together!

Next up on our adventure was to explore the HOH Rainforest area. Olympic is extremely unique with its diverse landscapes all contained within one park. Jenifer was particularly excited to see the mossy trees that have been towering in this area for over 1000 years! It was fun hiking through the forest, stopping to read about the ecosystem, stop and feel the moss and trees and to watch birds that stopped by. We found one tree that the two of them fit perfectly in – home in the forest. Jenifer decided this was the perfect spot for a crown her new mother and law gifted her to go with her second dress. It truly looked like Jenifer was the forest queen in that tree!

As we continued making our way through the park we headed to Lake Crescent. We hiked into a beautiful spot of the lake where the blue color of the 600+ foot deep lake was deep and rich. On the warm summer day, it was the perfect temperature for jumping in the lake after having lunch by the shore! Jenifer + Taylor brought cute clear blow up floaties to float on. It was a great time relaxing and as Jenfier said – doing something they’d do at home together, but during their elopement experience somewhere epic! Before heading out, Taylor wanted to join in the cliff jumping fun that is very popular in this area. Jenifer floated in the water and watched along side the cliff edges as Taylor lived out his fun jumping from several different cliff heights. It was a fun lunch break, perfect mid day adventure.

Our last stop on day 2 exploring Olympic was a different beach! We hiked through the ferns and forest to the shore line filled with massive rocks. Tthe first thing we explored was the tide pools as when we arrived the tide was low. They were excited to look for crabs, starfish and other sea life. Taylor found a friendly crab that was interested in their rings! We walked around exploring as much of the coast line as we could. The shoreline always feel freeing like being a kid again – these two embraced that playing airplane, coming up with photo ideas that they were stoked on like foot prints in the sand and dancing around in the sand.

As the sun got lower they enjoyed a slower paced time together and watching the sun sink below the horizon laying on a blanket together. It was hard to believe the two days were coming to an end after months of planning and two full days living out incredible adventures one after another. We ended the two days in pure celebration with a double champagne spray. However, before heading out we stay on a blanket together chatting and snacking as we waited for the sky to get dark enough for a final star photo. Admiring the milky way one last time on their epic adventure across WA.

Celebrating this day with Taylor + Jenifer was incredibly special. There was so much thought put into when, where and what was to happen on their elopement day. Their dream was fully brought to life and we packed an incredible amount of adventure into 2 days. We enjoyed the mountains, rivers, waterfalls and coast line – experiencing some of the best of the best within WA. The entire experience was filled with all the things that make an elopement experience full circle in what we think is the most epic way to start off marriage. From romance, intention, including elements of every day life together, including elements of bucket list items, challenging yourself and simply enjoying each other and the environment. Though they packed a lot into these two days it was a perfect balance of adventure and quality time together. We are so stoked Jenifer + Taylor chose us to come along this adventure with them! Huge congrats to Jenifer + Taylor!!!!! We wish you two many years a beautiful, happy marriage with more adventures along the way!
